Lyrical Perfection 4

23 November 2006

I have lived a thousand lifetimes
To find a soul like yours
A soul so pure
A soul so brave
An angel that takes my breath away
I want to lie with you forever
My passion knows no bounds
I want to shield you from all evil
Protect this love we have found
Love me with your spirit
Promise we’ll never part
We aren’t the same [...]

Lyrical Perfection 3

23 November 2006

To every captive soul and gentle heart
into whose sight this present speech may come,
so that they might write its meaning for me,
greetings, in their lord’s name, who is Love.
Already a third of the hours were almost past
of the time when all the stars were shining,
when Love suddenly appeared to me
whose memory fills me with terror.
Joyfully [...]

Lyrical Perfection 2

23 November 2006

May Love ever protect
this heart he gave to you, his to command,
and, on the other hand,
may mercy beg you to remember me,
because before I go
too far away from all your present worth
the thought I will return
to you once more already comforts me.
God! Not for long shall I remain away,
judging by what I see,
for often this [...]

Lyrical Perfection 1

23 November 2006

While I have no great opinions about my poetic abilities, my verse, however flawed, comes from my heart and soul and for that I feel happy.
Yet there are times when I feel acutely inadequate about my lyrics. Last Saturday at the British Museum, I read a snippet of Tagore’s poetry both in the original Bengali [...]

Lyrical Perfection

Four posts dedicated to some of the worlds best poetry on that complex topic of Love. By no means a comprehensive or correct list :) Simply a varied snapshot of some of my favorite.

Intensity

20 October 2006

It’s been so long,
I’ve forgotten how
Yet seeing you cry
Brings tears to my eyes
How would I feel to know
That you would leave
Not because you hate
But that you Love
A little too much
When I saw you after months
I felt I’d seen you,
Everyday, with closed eyes
When we hugged
A little lost
When we walked
Time stood a little still
And then moved
Ever so [...]

Desperation

21 June 2006

Turned every hour
Like a roast chicken
Starting at a wall, the first
The ceiling, the second
And the wall, again
The third hour.
Dreaming,
What green plains
Lie beyond these walls.
Turned every hour,
Like a sand clock
Dreaming
I am sheik
In the desert sands of time
Pursued by bandits.
Fleeing
Feeling an arrow pierce me
Feeling the needle prick.
Turned every hour
Waiting to be turned now
Waiting to know
What it will [...]

The First Time

17 June 2006

Your sweet smile,
I was taken aback.
I knew it would be
An adventure I would not forget.
A discovery of those hidden secrets,
That few may have known,
But never found.
You lead me on,
Safe in the cushions,
Warm and happy,
Higher and higher
Into the clouds.
I thought I could never descend,
But we did, together,
Oh so smoothly.
I looked towards you,
With a contented smile,
You did [...]

Wonder

17 June 2006

A short life
A long tragedy
A black comedy
A bitter rife
Within a scene
A story redone
A small act
A broken pact
A part undone
Has more meaning
Than futile missions
The correct absurdity
The enduring futility
Of finding reasons
When there are none.

Horsemen of the apocalypse

14 June 2006

20 years,
or is it 21?
I have forgotten to count.
A little early,
or a trifle too late.
Days begun,
Little done.
Happiness shared,
Smiles exchanged,
The joy of living.
Yes,
but eternity for us
is not forever.
Nights undone
In sweet sorrow dreams.
Like carpets thick,
Dust swept under,
forgotten.
Drops of water
On parched earth,
Hissing and fading away,
Herald horsemen from afar,
In search of wiser reasons
More than futile cycles.
A moment more…
Gone.
And still [...]
